The Art Of Letting (My Job) Go

Image
A tenure of more than two years will soon come to a finish this Friday. Let's go backward to two years ago, shall we? During the hiring process, I clearly recall telling my interviewer, now team leader, that I would stay for only 24 months. I didn't think before answering the question, to be honest.      2017 - Two years and five months later here I am! This is my second job and never did it occur to me that it would be this difficult to let go of my colleagues turned really good friends and my students. I have learned many things (not related to grammar!). Within this span of time, I took the opportunity to develop myself professionally and did what I didn't get the opportunity to do while in hospital -- travel.      Change can be a difficult thing to welcome. We always have the choice to stay and dwell in a bed of roses..or take the opposite route. I opted for the latter because in the long run, it is going to help me grow. I beli...

Random: Change of Workout Plan

Image
I took two tabs of B vitamins today. My energy is just exploding and my fingers are shaking! It's nothing new, really. Some days I just need a quick lift and this is one of those ....days. It's been approximately 120 hours since I ran 21 kilometers. My body has recovered and the soreness is gone. I did a recovery run earlier this week, too!      I have come a conclusion that building muscle does help in running. It's not only all fancy schmancy. My core has gotten so crappy. The last time I did power yoga my flabs went hay wire but good thing I was still able to do a tripod headstand. I guess I still have it in me...flexibility though, back to zero.      Before flying out to India, I will be juggling workouts at home with running. I need to because I'll be taking a week off. Probably I will be doing some simple workouts there but we'll see. Catch y'all laterssss! Happy Friday everyone! Pit Senyor! It's Sinulog weekend alre...

Saving Strays Cebu

Image
I took Mico out for a run yesterday! But Mico is currently admitted. No, I'm not talking about a person, I'm a talking about a dog...and this shirt, would help Mico heaps. You guys know how much I respect and love animals...any living creature at that. This includes our four legged friends. People call them " askal " short for " asong kalye ." But for animal lovers, we prefer to call them " aspin " --- " asong pinoy. " A couple of months ago, Gretel, a friend of mine conducted a drive that helped change the world of these helpless and neglected strays in Mandaue City Pound. Though based in Thailand, she called in for volunteers to work together in giving these furry babies the basic needs they surely deserve. With the help of other compassionate people of the same goal, strays are finally being given love and attention that was long overdue. Saving Strays Cebu aims to, from the name itself, SAVE the asong pinoys roaming ar...

I'm TWENTY what?

Image
This day was far from quotidian. It was extra special and significant to me personally because..because..because...it's my natal day! I'm officially 27!      I got up late last Saturday not realizing it was my birthday. Still feeling muzzy from slumber, I didn't really mind the sound of the door opening and foot steps thinking that it was just my sister coming in to get some stuff. Suddenly, a heart-shaped box filled with Ferrero chocolates dropped on the bed. Oh to my surprise it was Lawrence. And while having breakfast, my sister ran back and forth to prepare another 'surprise' for me.  (*°∀°) Happy 27! one happy dog! I ate everything!       Happy candle and cakes day to me! What a way to jump start my day! <3     The initial plan was to out with him and my sister but then I thought I wanted to celebrate with my dogs and manang , too. After all, we are less than five resi...

Typhoon Haiyan: Three Years After

Image
On November 8, 2013, typhoon Haiyan slammed across the Visayas region of the Philippines. Having a storm strength of Category 5 and a wind speed of 195 miles per hour, this storm, known as Yolanda to us, left 1.9 of the total 12.9 million people homeless.      Three years after this incident, many still experience trauma as they recall that fateful day when the unexpected storm surge happened. It was extremely catastrophic and I guess people were not really alarmed of a storm surge warning. What was a storm surge anyway? I thought it was better to tell them that a tsunami was coming. That way, they would have evacuated the areas much more quicker. Yes, the frightened residents stayed indoors... but that wasn't enough.      My family and I were in our house in Cebu when that occurred and we could hear the howling of the mighty strong winds. It was almost a subtle scream. Roofs were pulled out from the houses and were sent flying as people tried ...

Embracing Beautiful Imperfections

Image
One of the perks of having Cardio Unit staff friends is that they get to use you as a test patient for their machines. I don't really mind being a hamster for a day! Way back when I was working in a hospital, I had a test echo which found that I had mild mitral regurgitation. Nah, not much of a big deal. It doesn't cause me any problems at all. Still, it's there!      In high school I also found that my dislocating hip joint wasn't at all normal...I had to go to a doctor because I sometimes would feel like a nerve was sort of caught between my bones ( or something like tha t) and my range of movement was limited. I can't raise my legs so high, laterally. Then after running further tests and going to the doctor, it was shown that the ball of my right hip was a little bit longer than the one on the left. Nahhh, not much of a big deal either...and I stopped visiting the doctor because surgery was the only way to correct it. I had no money for that and ...

Mother Earth: The Downfall

Image
image courtesy of Inhabitat.com I hope that image got your attention.  Allow me to openly express my honest feelings and opinions and I leave it to you if you want to finish reading this post. ~      The number of creatures living in the brink of extinction has led me to realize that sometimes, other people are too selfish not to think of others' crucial situation. I am honestly ashamed of the human race.        I have always had this deep sense of caring for the Earth since I was a child. I recall picking up an injured bird and taking care of it until it was ready to fly, I happily planted seedlings in our lot and witnessed it grow to my heart's content. It is and  never was  like me to throw trash in any place and yes, I am never guilty of dumping garbage anywhere. The cartoons that I have watched were The Wild Thornberry's and Captain Planet. I have brought this love until the present time. I...

Say Boo! - QQ English Cebu Celebrates Halloween

Image
Ghouls and ghosts, spirits and witches, white ladies and doppelgangers. Happy Halloween everyone!      Every year QQ English celebrates Halloween by hosting a contest with participating teachers and students showcasing their scariest costume evaaa! This year's event was so much better than the last because even the staff are getting into the spirit ! (JOKE!) They fabulously dressed up as harlequin. They were more of cute than scary! Some Japanese do not celebrate Halloween and this is quite a fun experience for them. Not the usual classroom scenario...imagine yourselves having class with the nun from conjuring.  One teacher dressed up as a doll and nailed it. More of a fashionable doll because of the shoes! Would you be scared or distracted?      Each year it just keeps getting better. No  tricks here, just pure treats!       How was your Halloween experience? xx, Michelle ...

Cagayan de Oro Weekend

Image
Whoa! Attalast!!! A breath of much needed fresh air to break the dreadful routine. This weekend was very much awaited as we planned to visit Cagayan de Oro not too long ago. Say, just three weeks earlier? lol This was my second time to visit but too bad I was just going to stay here for one day. Yes, ONE day. I had my return ticket and I so badly wanted to reschedule my flight for another week.  (sobs) Main agenda: Lawrence Niece's Christening. There she is!:)      After the 3:00 bell I immediately shut my PC down and rushed out so I could get home before 4:00. I fed my dogs, changed, packed and headed out to Robinsons mall hoping that there would be a shuttle to Robinsons Galleria. And there was indeed one...free of charge! So I hopped on and waited, the traffic was starting to become like a monsoon and I arrived just in the nick of time. Lawrence and I had coffee at Bo's while waiting then we rode a taxi going to Pier 3 (Cebu to CDO)...
