Random: Change of Workout Plan

Image
I took two tabs of B vitamins today. My energy is just exploding and my fingers are shaking! It's nothing new, really. Some days I just need a quick lift and this is one of those ....days. It's been approximately 120 hours since I ran 21 kilometers. My body has recovered and the soreness is gone. I did a recovery run earlier this week, too!      I have come a conclusion that building muscle does help in running. It's not only all fancy schmancy. My core has gotten so crappy. The last time I did power yoga my flabs went hay wire but good thing I was still able to do a tripod headstand. I guess I still have it in me...flexibility though, back to zero.      Before flying out to India, I will be juggling workouts at home with running. I need to because I'll be taking a week off. Probably I will be doing some simple workouts there but we'll see. Catch y'all laterssss! Happy Friday everyone! Pit Senyor! It's Sinulog weekend alre...

Cebu Marathon 2017: Going Beyond Running

Image
Shoes, singlet, socks, race bib, cap ---- all not ready! Last Saturday, January 7, we slept at Lawrence's and I was really unprepared for the marathon. Mind you, I got sick days prior and ran a total of 11 kilometers the whole freaking week. I know I should have been tapering mileage but I got sick, like really sick, and it was so impossible to push myself into training again. So I left it all to prayer. Heehee       Assembly time was 3:00 a.m. and we had to rush home for me to prepare and wow, it was the second day of my period! Perfect timing, right? But you know what Regina Brett says: So, with my race bib attached and an extra tampon on hand, I simply ran. Ready! Sweatyyyy! photo by: Lawrence Lim The first 8 kilometers was easy as pie but when upon reaching the foot of the bridge, I could feel my gut churning already. Heading back, I thought, "what the hell did I get myself into?" ...

Getting Started: Health and Fitness Goals

Image
Staying in shape has always been a huge part of my life. My earliest memory of working out was when I was in elementary. My mother, who was a flight attendant then, would bust a sweat to Jane Fonda's cardio and toning routine.      In high school, I skipped the exercise and literally starved myself skinny. Sad to say but social media was one of the major reasons why I did that and it was just plain ridiculous. It made me look "nice" for a while (I thought) and my hair started falling off easily and I didn't have enough energy to study even and my grades went downhill.       Good thing I managed  to get back on my feet and made a complete diet overhaul. In the last year of college I was already doing weights. It gave me the lift I needed after a long stretch of unhealthy lifestyle. I continued to do the same thing for a year and eventually, like any routine, got bored with it.      I got into running and yo...

Back On The Mat: Wednesday Yoga

Image
Running does make your muscles, especially those on the legs, tight. It's undeniable since you can definitely feel it...in all parts. The more I pushed myself to do better in running, the lesser my flexibility got. I don't know about you guys but I recall not being able to do a monkey split or plow just two months after training. Now it's been more than a year and I'm back to square one in my yoga practice.      There is this annoying back pain I've been telling you about, right? It got worse from all the sitting I've been doing at work. Hello flat  butt! What better way to relieve that than by doing yoga. It never fails. Without hesitation, I grabbed my beloved mat and headed to YogaHub in Raintree Mall. Namastayyyy chill! (c) Yoga Hub      Who doesn't love discounts? lucky me! (c) Yoga Hub      What perfect time it was because they had a 50% discount on all walk in students. Yay! And t...

Mountain-ing On A Weekday

Image
Smell the mountain air!!! I ran to the mountains twice this week. Somehow I have missed it and I needed a change of scenery. It's not that far off but it gave my thighs one hell of a push!      Last Wednesday I got out of bed so groggy that the caffeine in my daily cup had not kicked in until late in the morning. I thought to myself, I'm so freaking exhausted I don't think I can go for a long run today. But after realizing that it's going to be December next week and Cebu Marathon is just less than two months away, I had no option but to simply work my butt off.      12.87 kilometers after, I actually didn't regret going up and beating myself up! I savored the refreshing view of the sunset and it was a perfect way to end a long draining day!

1000 kilometers After and Cebu Marathon 2017

Image
Greetings from this side of the super toned gastrocnemius! Guess what everyone? I have reached 1,000 kilometers on Nike! I've never been so happy because it almost felt like forever. Before I knew it, I was at 900+ kilometers last week.      On other news, Cebu Marathon's early bird registration has been extended until November 15. This'll be my second time to join and I'm so dang psyched for it! To the people who feel like giving up on running just because you are not seeing the results yet...I say, go and run. Because good and beautiful things take time. If you've been running for miles and miles and are up for the challenge (of beating your time, that is) I strongly and wholeheartedly encourage you to join.      I started running in 2011 and I can't even remember the brand of the first pair of shoes I wore! I thought Sketchers was best thing ever. I had no gear, no belt bags whatsoever. I simply ran and joined my first ...

I Gained Weight. Now What?

Image
Someone told me the other day that I have gotten a tad fat. Oh! Initially I thought, "It must be all the sodium from the food trip I had during the weekend." Another possible reason behind this must be my working out lesser than usual. Either way, I really could not care less.      Gaining weight is a normal part of life and I know some women fuss about how heavy they are even though they are just a pound heavier than they were ( what , yesterday ?) I tell you, save yourself the fuss. I am not the kind of person who weighs herself every single day. I am way over that phase and the last time I stepped on a scale was more than a year ago.      It's unfair to blame fat. I'd say there are many factors on why one gains weight. It could be stress, water weight, muscle growth and the like. Another point why I am not so conscious of this is because I am taking protein...and with protein comes more muscle...more muscle equals lesser to...

Our First Fun Run After 48 years!

Image
We had our first fun run after ages! The last run we did together was four years ago. Even since Lawrence got injured, we weren't able to do so anymore...until last week when we joined Wipro Run 2016. Let me just say how happy and proud I am that we crossed the finish line together! 5k done! happy faces! Can you tell how hungry yet joyful we were because of the free food?   Hit the road running!:)

I Took A Week Off from Running (And Didn't Regret It!)

Image
It snapped! I felt a somewhat crackling sensation on the inner side of my right knee last Friday. I carelessly ignored it until I felt a slight pain in that area. I was supposed to go for a morning run the following day but after that I decided to just take a week off from running.      Inevitable instances like this are never an excuse to stop working out. Whether it be brisk walking, zumba or yoga, the point is to just keep moving. These are not as strenuous as running but it keeps my fitness level at peak. heehee

Top 5 Reasons to Start Running

Image
Let's face it. Running has become a fad these days with people raging the streets at dawn, training on the track in afternoons, and of course who can forget posting photos on social media about the awesome post-run feeling they have (I so can relate)... and the list just goes on. But why run? Even as an amateur runner, people have asked me what is it about running that I love. Trust me, it's not only for what we call "body goals."      I've listed down my top 5 reasons for running...and I hope this convinces you to get those kicks on and be up for the challenge as well! 1. It's Cheap. Yep. THAT IS--- If you're just starting to run, you don't need all those fancy shmancy gear. Just buy a good pair of shoes and you're good to go. I slowly upgraded by buying a belt bag to put my phones in and recently, I have just bought a bluetooth headset. I'm saving for a new pair of compression leggings but what my boyfriend give me still does the jo...

Cebu Marathon 2016!

Image
Hello everyone! I'm back! Allow me to express my overwhelming happiness here. (⊙ꇴ⊙)      I've just finished my first ever dead serious 21-km marathon!! Hurray! I've never been so motivated to finish something and the feeling of having such feat is just beyond words. It's true what they say, mind over matter. I fess up to this. Halfway through, my legs and back felt like they were literally going to break but I, along with a thousand and three hundred more, had to keep going...with a few short pit stops, that is. The muscle pain was almost unbearable. I didn't work so hard to just give up (plus the P1,500 would go to waste!) I timed in at 2:29:40. Ten seconds earlier than what I aimed for.
