Cebu Marathon 2016!

13:24:00

Hello everyone! I'm back! Allow me to express my overwhelming happiness here. (⊙ꇴ⊙)

I've just finished my first ever dead serious 21-km marathon!! Hurray! I've never been so motivated to finish something and the feeling of having such feat is just beyond words. It's true what they say, mind over matter. I fess up to this. Halfway through, my legs and back felt like they were literally going to break but I, along with a thousand and three hundred more, had to keep going...with a few short pit stops, that is. The muscle pain was almost unbearable. I didn't work so hard to just give up (plus the P1,500 would go to waste!) I timed in at 2:29:40. Ten seconds earlier than what I aimed for.

The plan to run half a marathon has been in my list of things to achieve for the past two years and finally, it has been ticked off the list. I have a feeling it wasn't going to end there, next year I'll go for thirty. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ It never occurred to me that I'd cross the finish line until race day came and I was left with no other option but to just keep the hell going. Some runners I met had trainers who told them the what's what of running a marathon. Frankly though, I wasn't there to compete, I was there to  merely finish and the only competition I had was with myself. I had an inconsiderable amount of knowledge when it comes to preparing for long runs. Lawrence gave me tips and told me about tapering mileage. The Nike Run+ app was my only loyal running buddy.Training began last September and the furthest I ran was 12 km. No kidding. I thought I was dead come race day.

I merely held my breath, closed my eyes and sent whispered prayers to the skies! The adrenaline and mindset kept me going. Ah, six kilometers to go, then five, then two, then I was one short block away. That soon? Then, triumph!

This was me when I reached the finish line. ₢⦿͡㍕⦿͡ꀣ
